Vaginal Discharge Syndromic Management in Family Planning Programs: A Review of the Literature
Abstract
This review of 11 studies assesses the effectiveness of syndromic management of reproductive tract infections (RTIs) in family planning programs. All studies found syndromic management of RTIs not effective, especially for cervical infections. Reasons include: asymptomatic infections, poor correlation between symptoms and RTIs, and relatively few risk factors among family planning clients.
