New Research Suggests Women Shoulder the Hidden Labour of Navigating Healthcare

TORONTO--A new national study from Blue Cross® suggests that Canadian women are not just managing illness – they are increasingly carrying an invisible burden of navigating the healthcare system. According to the study, 53 per cent of women have experienced a chronic illness, nearly two-thirds avoid raising certain health concerns with their physicians, and 71 per cent of women living with chronic illness report having to repeatedly reconstruct their health history. Together, the findings highlight an often-overlooked dimension of women’s healthcare: the cognitive, emotional and administrative work required to simply access effective care.
