Acadia Pharmaceuticals said on Thursday its experimental drug for psychosis associated with Alzheimer’s disease missed the main goal of a mid-stage study, sending the drugmaker’s shares down about 11 per cent.
Patients receiving a 60-milligram once-daily dose of remlifanserin showed greater improvement than those on placebo in reducing hallucinations and delusions, but the difference was not enough for the study to meet its main goal.
A lower 30-milligram dose showed little benefit across study measures, while the higher dose met a key secondary goal measuring the overall severity of Alzheimer’s disease psychosis symptoms.
