New data obtained by CBC News suggests violence against health-care workers is a growing problem in Alberta.
The data from the Workers’ Compensation Board of Alberta shows health-care workers filed 1,108 workplace violence claims in 2025 — the highest number over the past 10 years for those in the sector.
There were 672 such claims filed in 2016, and that number then started increasing with each year before decreasing slightly during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But the decline stopped in 2022, with each subsequent year showing at least 1,000 workplace violence claims.
